Highland Wildlife Park:

Just a short drive from Newtonmore is the ‘Highland Wildlife Park’ which now has Two Polar Bears, Walker’ and Arktos’, there are also Tigers, Monkeys, Wild Cats, Wolves plus many more wild animals.  Visit the Highland Wildlife Park’ website via our links page

Bird Watching:

A short drive from Newtonmore you will find the RSPB Insh Marshes Reserve. A little further afield you will find Loch Insh and Loch Garten Osprey Reserve where many osprey chicks have been reared in recent years

Walking and Climbing:

The area has a vast network of footpaths traversing a range of terrains including glens, mountains and forests. The climbing areas of the Cairngorm Mountains with its world famous Funicular Railway and the Monadhliath mountains which boasts four Munros are a short distance away, some excellent local guide books are available to help you plan your route


Newtonmore is situated by the River Spey world famous for its beauty and salmon fishing


There are a number of 18 hole golf courses in the area including Newtonmore, Kingussie, Boat of Garten and Grantown-on-Spey


Our location makes a day trip to several different skiing areas possible. Closest is the famous Cairngorm area, further east is the popular Lecht resort and to the west is the Aonach Mor area, which boasts Scotland's only gondola lift

Other Activities:

Pony trekking and mountain bike hire can be arranged locally and offer an alternative way to see our beautiful countryside. For the whisky enthusiast the Speyside Malt Whisky Trail is the ideal way to spend the day. For those wishing to learn something of the areas eventful history or trace their ancestry, there are many Heritage Centres, Museums and Castles in the area

Ruthven Barracks are the best preserved of the four garrisons built in the early 18th century by the Hanoverian government as a garrison for soldiers to quell the rebellious Jacobites. The impressive remains serve as a reminder of the Highlands troubled past.
